Restoration work begins on dome of historic Mission Concepción

After 265 years, the Mission Concepción dome will soon be receiving much-needed restoration.

The mission church is one of the oldest non-reconstructed stone churches in the United States and its dome needs stabilization and repair.

The work will include fitting a metal band around the base of the dome, masonry and plaster repair as well as the replacement of the exterior plaster coating of the dome with a new waterproof system.

Because of the substantial nature of the repairs, Mission Concepcion will be closed for three months.

During the closure, the parish community will continue to celebrate Sunday Masses at 10 a.m. (bilingual) and noon (mariachi) at the Chapel of Blessed Sacrament Academy at 1135 Mission Road.
