Double solar illumination Aug. 15

Mission Concepción (Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción) will observe the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Wednesday, Aug. 15, with a 7 p.m. Mass, preceded by the annual double solar illumination at 6:30 p.m. The mission’s Franciscan founders constructed its windows to funnel two beams of sunlight into the church on this feast day. One eventually illuminates the face of the Virgin Mary in the painting above the main altar, while the other progresses to the center of the cross-shaped church. Plan to arrive early as the church fills up quickly for this special occasion.
