Catholic Charities and archbishop distribute Thanksgiving turkey boxes
Catholic Charities distributed more than 200 Thanksgiving turkey boxes to low-income clients, senior citizens, and the most vulnerable in the community at the Guadalupe Community Center Nov. 19. Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, blessed the bountiful gifts as volunteers assembled and distributed the items.
Turkeys and other Thanksgiving goods were provided by Ben E. Keith, RK Group, and local parishes. Guadalupe Community Center volunteers and Young Adult Board members were on site to unload the Ben E. Keith truck, greet clients, distribute the boxes, and even transport items to isolated clients.
Pope Francis declared Sunday, Nov. 18, as “World Day of the Poor;” to have compassion for those in poverty. This nspired sponsors and volunteers to join Catholic Charities in an effort to address food insecurity, engage isolated seniors, and comfort the most vulnerable during the Thanksgiving holiday.
