The City of San Antonio and Visit San Antonio hosted a special announcement about a new cultural celebration, Day of the Dead San Antonio 2019, at Plaza Juarez in La Villita Sept. 12.

In his opening comments and blessing at the gathering, Auxiliary Bishop Michael Boulette said that the Archdiocese of San Antonio was thrilled that the community will celebrate this important tradition of Dia de los Muertos in such a grand fashion.

Speakers at the event included San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg; City Councilman Robert Treviño; Chef Johnny Hernandez, founder and president of Grupo La Gloria and True Flavors; Javier Ruiz-Galindo, founder and CEO of Day of the Dead San Antonio; Dr. Ellen Riojas Clark, University of Texas at San Antonio professor emerita; Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, president and CEO of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation; and Charlie Garza, regent of the Rey Feo Consejo Educational Foundation.
