Statement of Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, regarding the appointment of Bishop Daniel Garcia to the Diocese of Monterey, California
I offer my congratulations and best wishes to Auxiliary Bishop Daniel Garcia of Austin on his appointment by Pope Francis as the new bishop of Monterey, California. Bishop Garcia leaves a legacy of distinguished service in parish positions and diocesan duties during decades of ministry to the Church in Central Texas. He has also provided stellar service to his brother bishops through his collaboration with the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops and with his appointments to several committees of the U.S. bishops’ conference. I lived briefly in Monterey for language studies, and Bishop Garcia will find there a Catholic community with a deep and rich history; the tomb of St. Junipero Serra is in that diocese at Carmel-by-the-Sea. Bishop Garcia is in my prayers as he continues his episcopal ministry on the West Coast.
