The cover of the Official Directory of the Archdiocese of San Antonio features two significant events in the life of the church here in South Texas. The first was the episcopal ordination on March 20, 2017, of Auxiliary Bishop Michael J. Boulette as an auxiliary bishop for the archdiocese. His appointment to the episcopacy by Pope Francis was announced on Jan. 23, 2017. The second is that the city of San Antonio will celebrate its 300th anniversary in 2018. The San Antonio Tricentennial Celebration is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will be commemorated with a year-long calendar of events, activities and innovative initiatives that will carry San Antonio into the next 300 years. A highlight for the local church will be the celebration of the feast of St. Anthony on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
