A ribbon cutting and blessing for the new $6 million St. Matthew Athletic Center was held Jan. 28. Among those taking part in the event were Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS; Father Dennis Aréchiga, pastor; San Antonio District 8 City Councilman Manny Pelaez; Mike Martinez, chair of the Capital Campaign Committee; Danny Padron, emcee; Ross Loeffler, vice president of Kopplow Construction and head of the project; St. Matthew Catholic School Principal Dr. Jennifer Grenardo; and St. Matthew School Student Council representatives, as well as eighth grade students. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony held outside, attendees processed into the gymnasium to music provided by the St. Matthew School handbell choir. After presentations, the archbishop and the pastor blessed the courts and walls of the new facility, while deacons blessed the school grounds.
