Our lives are ultimately in God’s hands, says archbishop at immigrant Mass
A moving Mass in commemoration for those immigrants who lost their lives recently locked in a smuggler’s truck, their families, as well as all immigrants was held July 30 at San Fernando Cathedral with Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, as the presider.
The cross used for the cathedral’s Holy Week Pésame observance — a prayer service with the sorrowful mother — was used at the liturgy. Post-it Notes were also distributed to all present so that they could add the names of immigrants who have died. These notes were then brought forward and placed at the foot of the cross during the Mass. Prayer cards of the Consecration to the Holy Spirit were also provided to all attendees.
“At times — especially in times of crisis — we must search diligently for signs of God’s kingdom of justice, peace, love and harmony,” said the archbishop in his homily. “Whether we discover it by chance or by careful search, the most important thing is that we recognize its great value and respond to it totally, holding nothing back.”
