Blessings bestowed on law enforcement service animals, their handlers

A special law enforcement animal blessing with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol took place at Plaza de la Cruz at San Fernando Cathedral on the feast of St. Francis on October 4.

Speakers at the event included Sheriff Javier Salazar and Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS. In his comments, the archbishop said, “We pray that these law enforcement personnel are protected from harm as they keep our streets and homes safe. These service dogs and their handlers often find themselves in dangerous situations, and we pray that they have the strength and courage to persevere in their tasks, so that these officers are able to return home to their families each day with their K9s. Their profession calls for dedication and strength of body and spirit, as they go where others do not go, and we ask the Lord to be at their side through it all. Protect them Lord, as we pray for all in law enforcement. We appreciate them more than they will ever know.”
