Appeal donors opening doors: Tuition assistance

“The school was not the end; it was rather the instrumental means for improving the way of life.”
– St. John Bosco

The Archdiocese of San Antonio is blessed with 38 Catholic schools that, in both our rural and urban communities, form and educate the Church’s newest generations. Hope for the Future, funded in part by Archbishop’s Appeal donors, provides the tuition assistance that opens the door for more families to benefit from a Catholic school experience.

Sarah and her father moved to San Antonio mourning the loss of their mother and wife but determined to build a brighter future. While enrolling Sarah in a Catholic high school was a tremendous sacrifice for this single income household, Sarah’s father dedicated himself to ensuring that his daughter stayed rooted in the Gospel and with a school family that would help her to cope with her mother’s death. He knew that a Catholic education gave Sarah the spiritual foundation to continue in peaceful confidence and academically focused.

Just as this family was beginning to rebuild itself, their home was destroyed by fire. Their community, including Sarah’s school family, rallied and gave them the support that they needed to move forward once again. During this immense emotional and financial distress, Appeal donor generosity allowed Hope for the Future to provide Sarah with tuition assistance, overwhelming her father with such relief and gratitude that he fell to the floor sobbing. Appeal donors made this miracle possible. There is still time to make a gift to the 2018 Archbishop’s Appeal, ensuring that more families, like Sarah and her father, have access to the unique and beautiful gift of a Catholic education.
